Not the review that I would prefer, but at least I know you are thinking of me. I have been very fortunate and haven’t received any negative reviews like this. It isn’t luck. I work my butt off to keep it that way.
Do you read reviews?
Do you at least glance at how many stars a product has before you buy it? Do you scroll down to the worst reviews to judge whether one star was justified or the person leaving the review likely deserved the bad marks themselves? I know I do.
When was the last time you left a review for a business?
Any type of review? On Google, Facebook, Yelp? I read reviews constantly, But when it comes to actually contributing, like many others, I fall short.
Why does it matter?
It matters for several reasons. The most glaring for a business owner is that it helps with the public’s trust and perception of your business. If faced with several options, which one are you going to look at first? The likely answer is the one with the most good reviews.
Having a lot of reviews also helps with search ranking. Google and other search engines (yes, others exist) give priority to businesses that have a lot of reviews and businesses that have good reviews. Visibility is one of the keys to a successful business. Having a large portfolio of reviews helps get that job done.
Lastly, but not least important, it makes the business owner feel good! They know with certainty that if they mess up, you will inform them of that. If they did a good job, let them know.
Why is it so difficult to ask for a review?
It isn’t. Just do it. If a customer raves about how much they love your product or how your service saved their day, ask them to put it is writing. They would likely love to help you out by spreading the good word of your awesomeness, but they may not think of it on their own. You aren’t inconveniencing them by simply asking.
Just do it.
It might take you 2 minutes to write a review, but your words might make a business owner’s entire day. Make somebody’s day today. Especially in this post pandemic world, those who are showing up and doing a good job need to hear it.
